Protected Classification

The Law recognizes certain groups of people and characteristics as deserving of protection from discrimination and harassment. This is to prevent discrimination and harassment based on status, rather than ability. These classifications have come to be known as protected classes. They include, sex, race, national origin (where you come from), religious affiliation, disability (actual or perceived), sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy status, transgenderism and, in San Francisco, weight and height.
